Who Could Ask For Anything More?

Thanksgiving weekend, 2001 -- the big jazz concert at the Grass Valley Veterans Building with the great trumpeter Winton Marsalis and other musicians from New York and from our community. World-class jazz, right in rural Nevada County, California!

A team of local artists collaborated to fill the huge concert hall with artwork -- paintings and sculpture to express the nature of jazz. I was invited to create some large mobiles for the concert space -- mobiles which would in some way also invoke the spirit of jazz.

This is one of the mobiles from that concert. In it you may see the musical elements of rhythm –- pulsing, driving the music –- of melody -- voices riding on that rhythm –- and of Nothing – the space between notes.

Who could ask for anything more?
